Stephen Fremes
Research Assistant:
The program of research has focused on three main themes: 1) improving outcomes following CABG, 2) myocardial protection/cardiopulmonary bypass management, and 3) transcatheter aortic valve surgery. The research methodologies include multicenter clinical trials, observational studies (single center and health systems research), systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and health economics and modelling. There has also been extensive experience with Clinical Practice Guidelines including the CCS, ESC/EACTS. ACC/AHA and AATS – and presently on the CPG committees of EACTS and AHA/ACC. Stephen Fremes is presently an Editorial Board member and Associate Editor of JTCVS, ATS and CJC. Current peer-reviewed funding by CIHR for international RCTs in cardiac surgery includes ROMA, STICH3C, and ROMA:Women as the Nominated Principal Applicant, Co-A of the NIH-funded ROMA-QofL and ROMA-Cog sub studies, and Co-A of the CIHR-funded ODIN, LIMIT and TRIVS-IV. There are 2 students currently supervised in PhD programs in Clinical Epidemiology in the Faculty of IHPME.
