Dr. Hitzig’s program of research evaluates the impact of disability on health and quality of life, identifies factors that promote health and social well-being in the community, and develops evidence-based strategies to optimize the delivery of integrated models of care. Dr. Hitzig uses mixed-methods, implementation science and consensus-building approaches to co-create solutions to health challenges with providers, decision-makers, advocates, and persons with lived experience.

Some examples of recent projects include examining social isolation following spinal cord injury and limb loss, identifying national accessible housing priorities, improving service delivery in long-term care, and supporting the development and evaluation of integrated care programs for older adults (i.e., patient navigation programs, housing supports, etc.).
