John Blakely
Dr. Blakely’s background, in addition to being a practicing internist, is in randomized trials. These are the backbone of progress in medical therapeutics, and their performance has improved markedly over the past few decades. Their analysis has not kept pace, and most are analyzed using rituals that were appropriate for simpler problems in simpler times. As trials have become more complex, with events occurring over the course of the trial, and recently by the use of active controls, the problem has become more serious. It is past time that the notion of a ‘statistical’ logic, different from other logic, was put to rest. Dr. Blakely’s objective is the development of methods appropriate to the contemporary problems of current trials.
