Welcome to the online support hub for research ethics at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This webpage provides resources to support the ethical conduct of research involving humans at Sunnybrook and information about the services and activities of the Sunnybrook Research Ethics Board (REB). The content of the webpage is updated frequently to ensure the information therin reflects current practices, policies and guidelines.

The Research Ethics Office, as part of the Human Research Protections Program, coordinates and supports the activities of the Sunnybrook’s REB. The mandate of Sunnybrook’s REB is to ensure that all research involving human participants or human biological materials that is conducted within or on behalf of Sunnybrook meet the current scientific, regulatory and ethical standards for the protection of human research participants. To this end, the REB ensures that safeguards are in place to provide the greatest possible protection to patients and members of the community who act as research participants.
You are encouraged to contact research ethics for guidance with completing REB applications or for clarification regarding any information posted on the research ethics web pages.

December 18th, 2023: The Research Ethics Board Working Group’s, a subcommittee of the TAHSN Research Committee, has created a report including background and recommendations on 6 key priorities. Please see the report (available internally only).
