Why PACT?
Clinical trials drive breakthroughs in care and are a key component of Sunnybrook’s vision to invent the future of health care and our new Strategic Plan. Sunnybrook has established a new task force to improve clinical trial operations, efficiency and awareness so that over time, we can bring more trials to more patients at Sunnybrook.
PACT’s primary focus is to reduce time to trial activation to 45 days by driving initiatives to optimize processes, leverage data for improvement, improve resource utilization, and enhance communications to elevate engagement and awareness. This will ensure more trials can get up and running faster.

Ontario Universal Agreement for Clinical Trials (UACT) now in place at Sunnybrook
The Ontario Universal Agreement for Clinical Trials (UACT) was recently launched at Sunnybrook for industry-sponsored drug trials. The UACT will minimize negotiations and be a key element in reducing our clinical trial activation time.
Process Improvement Day
In May 2025, we brought together department leaders, researchers, clinicians, Foundation partners, research teams and patient partners to host our Clinical Trials Process Improvement Day. The candid discussions and innovative ideas shared throughout the day reflect a shared commitment to improving processes and reducing time to trial activation at Sunnybrook.
Clinical Trials Database
Our recently redeveloped research website includes a new section to provide patients and families with more information about clinical trials at Sunnybrook. The hub includes an FAQ, links to patient stories and most notably a new database of clinical trials recruiting at Sunnybrook. This is one way we are working to increase awareness about clinical trials at Sunnybrook.
