Why Choose Sunnybrook Research Institute?

As one of Canada’s Top 10 research hospitals, Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) is developing innovations in care for the more than 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for annually. Our world-class team of scientists, trainees and staff across our research platforms and programs are solving health care’s most complex challenges. Together, we’re leading more than 650 life-changing clinical trials, developing innovation to advance Canada’s medtech landscape and transforming patient care.

SRI is enabling discovery and invention through its 250,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art research space, including preclinical facilities, an advanced machine shop, device development lab and Toronto’s first 7-Tesla MRI.

Education & Training at SRI

Education, training and research are intricately linked at SRI. We are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, where most of our scientists teach in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

We offer hands-on learning opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows across our three research platforms: Biological Sciences, Evaluative Clinical Sciences and Physical Sciences

We also welcome research trainees across fields such as engineering and physics into our labs every year. Working with scientists are highly skilled biomedical and research personnel who get the chance to refine their skills as they apply their knowledge to our priority science questions, and we receive the benefit of that knowledge in turn.

Research Jobs and Fellowships

SRI is dedicated to providing hands-on, purposeful learning experiences to students and trainees to foster the next generation of health-care and research leadership. Through a variety of fellowship opportunities, SRI provides learners with foundational knowledge, and the support and guidance to translate discovery into clinical practice.

This program has really put me in the shoes of someone working in research, whether it’s diving into the literature and always learning about new developments in your field, or even waiting two days for the code for your model to run. In that case, it’s a lot of waiting, but it’s still fun.
